Hawaii was ranked on Forbes as the worst state for starting new businesses in 2018. A big part of the problem is a lack of access to business resources.
Increase access to capital grants for local & developing businesses
- Apply for infrastructure improvement grants for rural areas
- Support communities’ most relatively competitive industries, whether it be agriculture, manufacturing, etc.
- Build local partnerships such as marketplaces that share utility costs and draw local crowds.
- Promote “Buy Local” initiatives by marketing the uniqueness of Hawaii-made products
Local businesses will take back their market share. Improved access to resources will grow community economies from the inside out rather than from the outside in. Local economic growth will create jobs that match the needs of the community.
